No other location in South Africa and perhaps even in the world can boast such a spectacular scenic backdrop to a beach.
Camps Bay is a premier vacation destination, offering luxury hotels, serviced apartments and villas - and some great restaurants and sidewalk cafes. The Theater on the Bay and some trendy clubs in the area ensure that entertainment is close at hand.
Walks and Trails
There are some great walks and hiking trails in the vicinity of Camps Bay. Follow Victoria Rd north to Clifton's beaches, or up the mountain to Lion's Head.
The Pipe Track contour path around Table Mountain is a popular trail providing spectacular mountain and bay views. This trail also provides access to climbs and trails up to the top of Table Mountain. Please however take utmost care when hiking on the Mountain. Always look out for changes in weather, which can be unpredictable. Steep gorges and sheer cliffs can be extremely hazardous, especially when descending in windy, misty and wet conditions. Follow these safety guidelines when walking or hiking on the mountain.
This is one of the top beach attractions in Cape Town, with a wide palm-lined sandy beach. Lion's Head and the Twelve Apostles, soaring landmarks within the Table Mountain Nature Reserve, dominate the views east, north and south from Camps Bay. To the west, the vista of the Atlantic Ocean draws the visitor onto the soft sand of Camps Bay Beach.

In the summer months, the beach can be packed with locals and visitors, especially over weekends and during holidays. Many visitors enjoy a picnic on the palm-lined lawns. This is a great beach option for everyone – singles, honeymooners and families. The sidewalk cafes and restaurants are just a step away from the beach.
The bay is protected from the South-Easter winds by the mountains, so the sea is usually calm and provides safe swimming. The flat beach is perfect for sunbathing, Frisbee and other social beach sports. A tidal pool at the southern end of the beach is great for kids. Surfers can enjoy the waves at the northern end of the beach.
The Atlantic Ocean along the western seaboard of the Peninsula is definitely chilly, so be prepared for a refreshing plunge into the waves!

Camps Bay is a short walk too from Clifton's beaches. There are also guided bike tours available and walking trails along Victoria Road to Clifton, Sea Point and on the V&A Waterfront - and for the energetic, up to Lion's Head. The golden rule however is never to hike alone.
For spectacular views over the Bay from above, follow the route to Camps Bay over Kloof Nek - or take the cableway to the top of Table Mountain and look west over the sweeping shoreline.

Getting AroundFor an easy and safe way to get around to the major Cape Town sites, ride the open-top bus. At time of writing, it offers a hop on - hop off service with stops every 15 minutes in Camps Bay. |
